This project was situated in one of the highest volume transfer carriageways of Christchurch City east and west bound, amongst densely populated streets, and surrounded by some of Christchurch’s largest high schools. LB civil were tasked with installing 1.7Kms of DN180 HDPE water main, 800m of submain including associated hydrants, fittings, and complex connections to the existing network.

The team overcame several significant challenges within the project, associated with carrying out the work among the protected trees in the beautifully lined streets, and huge volumes of traffic both vehicle and pedestrian. The level of disruption a project of this size naturally has on stake holders meant a high impact methodology was deployed, using a super crew team of 10 water installers to accelerate the programme. We were able to condense the contract period of 200 days to 80 days total. This was a fantastic outcome for both the client and contractor to be able to hand this infrastructure back to the public with such minimal overall disruption.
