Wastewater Renewals
Southeast Riccarton

LBC were entrusted with the task of rejuvenating five bustling Riccarton streets as part of this Upgrade. This encompassed the replacement of live sewer systems with modern manholes and 150-375 UPVC infrastructure. The project involved installing over 1300 meters of sewer pipes, positioned at depths of 2 to 4 meters, with a similar length of laterals, primarily installed using pipe bursting techniques. These efforts were particularly challenging due to the presence of weak, saturated soils that needed constant support and extensive dewatering measures. To overcome this, ballast rafts, some up to 900 millimetres deep, utilising geogrid and bidim cloth were installed to ensure the rigidity of the pipe infrastructure, while multiple trench shields and adjusted backfilling techniques consistently supported the trench walls.
